This is the paperback version of Doc's latest bear hunting book.
Doc came out with his 1st Edition in 1990. It quickly became the bear hunter's Bible. His greatly revised 2nd edition came out in 2001 ("Revised 2001 Edition"). In 2014, Doc came out with a fantastic 3rd Edition revision. It was an ebook with integrated color photos and high definition video designed for Apple's format. Then, in 2017, he came out with a less expensive ebook, his 4th Edition, designed for Amazon's format. That version did not have color photographs or HD video so a DVD (sold here) is sold separately that contains just the color photos and high definition video clips.
Now, we have this great 5th Edition book in paperback format! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions have almost identical text. (There have been minor changes: fixing typos, adding a few photographs, changing some wording and captions.) However, all-in-all, the information in these 3 editions is the same.
This paperback is much bigger than Doc's first two books. It is 8 x 10 inches and weighs a couple of pounds. It is printed in the US by the same printer we use for Doc's Whitetail Hunter's Almanac, 10th Edition. The cover is in color, and the inside has great big black and white photos. They look great!
This is now the "premium" edition of Doc's bear books. As such, we wanted to include the same color photos and high definition videos built into the 3rd Edition, and optional for the 4th Edition. Therefore, this paperback comes with the companion DVD included. Initially, the companion DVD will be almost identical to the 4th Edition DVD. However, I will change it slightly, by adding a few photos.
What every Black Bear Hunter needs to know about the included 5th Edition DVD is that the video clips show Doc building a bait station — with positioning bait — and setting up his tree stand with the configuration he recommends. Every step is shown. These video clips are great!
After you read the book and watch the video clips, I am sure you will agree, this is a masterpiece! You should be able to visualize every step that you need to take to have a successful black bear hunt.
